Arrived on the island on Saturday and found a flyer for this kayak tour company.  Had a few concerns as one of the party had never kayaked before.  I called and spoke with someone regarding times, difficulty, etc.  They answered all my questions and were quite patient, so we decided to make tentative reservations and show up a bit early to see it all in person.  We arrived there and checked out the kayaks.  Having kayaked before with a different outfitter, i was immediately impressed with the condition of the kayaks.  Clean, well-taken care of, looking almost brand new.  Not a one on the trailer was banged up or beaten and all had lovely rudder systems - something I had not seen before.  Ray, the owner and tour guide was cheerful, friendly, and informative.  He took the time to describe how to paddle and what to do to all of the group, particularly the ones that had never kayaked before.  It turns out, he also keeps his groups small and takes into consideration the chemistry of the group.   As 2 of the people were relatively newbies to kayaking, there were only 4 in our group.  Did I mention his "real job" is an EMT?  That gave everyone a great sense of confidence that no matter what happened, he could handle it.

  
We set out down a small side channel to the bay.  He took his time to ensure that we all knew what we were doing and how to work the rudder system before we ever got out into the bay.  His knowledge of the currents and the area was awesome.   He pointed out the problem areas well in advance, giving us plenty of time to prepare.  The scenery was majestic.  We got back a little late but none of us were going to complain about getting more time than expected out on the water.  We saw crabs, clams, geese, the lighthouse, wild horses, osprey, and more.  All in all, I loved this trip.  It was one of my all time favorite kayak trips and I will definitely go back and do this again.  As to my friend who was worried and unsure of whether she wanted to do it again?  Well as she was getting out of the kayak, I asked her how she felt and if she would do it again.  She stated with a huge smile that despite her sore muscles, she would definitely do it again.  Tomorrow even, if I wanted.  Great job, Ray!!!   Via www.yelp.com   Kirsten ~ Virginia

 

Thank you both so much for making my weekend in Chincoteague so memorable.  You are wonderful to send along these pictures for my photo album.  You all do a wonderful job and are so flexible as to make anyone comfortable on their kayaking excursion.

I just wanted to send a note of thanks for the wonderful trip!  Ray was magnificent!  It was by far the best $80 we’ve ever spent!  We are going to make Chincoteague an annual vacation trip and will be making a kayak trip with Up a Creek an annual event as well!  Ken & Brenda ~ Virginia
